Invite Families Into Your Classroom to Celebrate International Women's Day with Bloomz

by Jude Miqueli, on Mar 5, 2018 4:50:10 AM

Students across the country are examining the changing cultural perceptions of women in society and honoring their contributions to all aspects of life. The theme of this year's International Women's Day is #PressforProgress. The website states: "We can't be complacent. Now, more than ever, there's a strong call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity."

Maybe one of your students' family members own a business, organization, or maybe she leads a marching band! March 8th is the day to invite her into your classroom to share her experiences and empower your class. A mom, aunt, cousin, or grandmother could give a powerpoint on her job or maybe she'd like to read a book that inspired her and show pictures from an important day in her life. Create a sign-up or make a post on Bloomz asking the women in your students' lives to come into your class on International Women's Day.

If the women in your student's lives are working so hard and can't take a day off to come into the classroom, ask them to post a picture of themselves or a woman who inspires them on the classroom newsfeed. It will create a stream of women on your newsfeed that you can show to your class to engage them in dialogue around gender equality and the role of women in society.
