If you run a childcare center or preschool and you are shopping for software, Brightwheel is almost certainly on your list, and it should be. It is a capable, well-liked platform with deep childcare features. This comparison says up front where Brightwheel is strong, and keeps a plain list of what Bloomz does not do. Where Brightwheel is strong
Brightwheel was built for childcare and it shows. Daily activity feeds, photo sharing, meal and nap logging, check-in and check-out, tuition billing and licensing-oriented tools are mature and well executed. If your parents expect a polished daily report today, Brightwheel delivers it today.
Where Bloomz for Childcare is different
Bloomz starts at the front desk and the office. The things a director has to prove or collect are the center of the product, and the app works in the family’s own language.
Check-in and check-out. Bloomz checks children in and out at a kiosk that asks for a PIN first, with QR as an option, and captures a guardian signature. A health screening at the door is optional. Staff clock in on the same system, and a live ratio view shows coverage as the day moves. Verified pickup stops the handover when a custody restriction is on file.
Ratios. Staff clock-in gives a live count of children and staff, and age-band ratio tables per room judge a combined room at open and close against the right band.
Health records. Health profiles with allergies and immunization tracking against the CDC schedule are live, along with incident reports with parent acknowledgement and a parent medication authorization with a room-level medication log.
Billing. Bloomz Pay handles recurring tuition plans, autopay, one-time charges, a late-fee policy, and subsidy agency awards tracked against balances. Published rates for childcare are 2.95% on cards and 0.6% on ACH (50 cent minimum, $2 maximum), with no setup or monthly fees. - The daily report. Bloomz’s care log (meals, bottles, diapers, naps, safe-sleep checks) with a daily report at checkout, photos included, is live.
- Maturity of the childcare-specific feature set overall. Brightwheel has had years of polish here.
What Bloomz does not do
Bloomz does not file CACFP claims. It records meals and exports the counts for your sponsor, and it imports DRDP and Teaching Strategies GOLD results through a preset set up against your export, without scoring them. Bloomz does not run payroll, but approved staff hours export to Gusto or QuickBooks Payroll. Subsidy attendance stays in your state’s system outside Washington; Bloomz produces a Washington DCYF attendance export, and it is not yet on DCYF’s approved list. If one of these is a must-have inside a single product, weigh it before you switch.

Which one should you pick?
- Choose Brightwheel if the daily report is the main thing parents buy on, and you want the most mature childcare feature set today.
- Choose Bloomz if the front desk, ratios, health records and tuition collection are your pain, or your families need the whole app in their own language, and you are comfortable with some features arriving in the next release.
