Special education software has always had a strange gap in it. Districts have serious tools for writing plans, tracking timelines, and generating the documents the law requires, Frontline, EdPlan, SEIS, and a handful of others do that job well. What none of them were built to do is sit in a family’s pocket, in the language that family reads, the way the rest of school communication now does.

What it is, and just as importantly, what it isn’t
Thrive IEP is not an IEP authoring tool. It doesn’t write plans, manage a case manager’s timelines, or generate the compliance documents your district already produces in Frontline, EdPlan, or SEIS. Those systems stay exactly where they are, as the system of record.
What Thrive IEP does is own the part of special education a family actually lives:
- A plan summary in the family’s own language — status, case manager, plan type, and the next annual and triennial review dates, translated, not a PDF attachment in English.
- Meeting notices on your district’s real lead-time policy, riding your school’s actual calendar so a family gets one invite and RSVPs once, not a parallel scheduling system to check.
- Interpreter requests a family can make themselves, instead of hoping a case manager remembers to ask.
- Consent signed from a phone, with a full audit trail, name, timestamp, and a record that’s revocable and expirable, not a one-way checkbox.
- Optional print-and-mail for the household that needs paper, and a delivery record for every document, sent, delivered, read, per guardian.
- Goal progress a family can follow between meetings, not just once a year at the annual review.
Access fails closed, by design
A child’s IEP status is arguably the most sensitive record in a school. Thrive IEP treats it that way: every single read and write goes through one authorization checkpoint. A student’s guardians see it. Staff holding a special-education role, a case manager or a special-ed admin, see it. A classroom teacher does not, by default. And if anything about that check ever behaves unexpectedly, it fails closed, denying access, rather than defaulting open. IEP fields are also kept out of general roster and search results entirely, so a plan can never surface where it shouldn’t.
Why this instead of a standalone IEP vendor
No single vendor sells “IEP management” as a category the way ParentSquare sells communication or Finalsite sells websites. The real comparison is secure document delivery, done well, applied to IEP-specific workflow.
