Introducing Alex Moore, Bloomz’s Nomadic Business Development Manager

by Ellen Ullman, on Apr 17, 2024 11:07:17 AM

Welcome to our new blog series, where we peel back the curtain on the vibrant personalities driving innovation at Bloomz. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to Alex Moore, our Business Development Manager, whose journey is as fascinating as it is inspiring.

In the dynamic world of edtech, it's the people who shape the landscape, and Alex is a shining example of this. What sets Alex apart? Well, he’s not your typical nine-to-fiver. A self-proclaimed nomad, Alex’s story is one of adventure, adaptability, and a thirst for exploration.

After living in Seattle, WA, and working at various startups in sales and business roles, Alex relocated to Hanoi, Vietnam, with his wife in 2020 after she accepted a teaching position at an international school. While there, Alex earned his teaching certificate and completed his student teaching with the same school. During his two years there, he was a long-term substitute and baseball coach at St. Paul American International School Hanoi.

“We were fortunate to have both American and Vietnamese holidays off, allowing us to travel the country and gain new experiences in the local culture,” says Alex. But the call of home eventually beckoned, leading them back to the United States in 2022.

Upon joining Bloomz in January 2023, Alex and his wife, who is now herself a remote online teacher, moved back to their hometown in Maryland, navigating the tumultuous housing market. Faced with soaring interest rates and fierce competition, they made a bold decision—to embrace life on the road.

They purchased an RV, a mobile abode equipped for the modern age. From Maryland to California, and everywhere in between, including Acadia National Park in Maine; Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; Key West, Florida; Hill Country in Texas; Joshua Tree National Park in SoCal, and Lake Tahoe, California, for skiing and snowboarding, Alex and his wife have traversed the U.S., creating memories that will last a lifetime.

But what fuels this nomadic lifestyle? According to Alex, it’s all about the right tools and a dash of flexibility. With products like Starlink for internet connectivity, coupled with a Thousand Trails camping pass, they’ve unlocked the freedom to roam without sacrificing connectivity.

Yet, it’s not just about the journey; it’s about the destination. For Alex, the allure lies in the perfect harmony of work and play, coupled with the opportunity to tread lightly on the planet. “We’re living the ‘leave no trace’ lifestyle,” he says proudly.

Of course, life on the road isn’t without its challenges. The constraints of space and the absence of a permanent address present their own set of hurdles. However, for Alex, the rewards far outweigh the drawbacks.

As he looks to the horizon, with stops in Yosemite, Tahoe, Oregon, Washington state, and Banff, Alex sees a burgeoning trend—more individuals and families embracing remote work and online schooling. It’s a lifestyle that offers both freedom and adventure, and Alex is at the forefront of this digital nomad revolution. “We can see the country and take our home with us!” he says.

With each mile traveled and every new experience embraced, Alex epitomizes the spirit of innovation and resilience that defines the Bloomz family.
