[New Parent Series] Tip 3: Set Common Goals
by Horacio Ochoa, on Mar 2, 2017 9:50:35 PM
Up next in our series of 5 tips to engage with your child’s education, today’s tip: Set Common Goals... a brief story on the importance of working together, parents and children, to envision the future and work together to reach it.
By setting academic goals with your children you enhance the communication process. You can start by discussing their personal and academic aspirations to allow your child to learn how to think about long-term outcomes. While it’s meaningful to encourage your children to dream limitlessly, encourage them to set ‘SMART’ goals too (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time based).
To guide them on the right course towards their goals (and hold them accountable), it may be helpful to use calendars, planners, agendas, and/or to-do lists.
